Summer of DIY: Door Facelift

Looking for an inexpensive way to make your home look sleek and modern? Refresh your door with KENT. Your front door sets the tone for your home. Refreshing your door can help make a bold statement that ties everything together.

What you’ll need:

*Please ensure you check your door's warranty before you start this project.

1. Choose the right paint: Select an exterior paint that is suitable for your front door's material (wood, metal, etc.) and can withstand the weather conditions in your area. It's recommended to choose a high-quality, durable paint with a semi-gloss or gloss finish, as these finishes are easier to clean and more resistant to scuffs and scratches.

2. Prepare the surface: Clean the door thoroughly with soap and water to remove dirt and debris. If there is any peeling or flaking paint, sand the surface lightly to smooth it out. Repair any cracks or holes with wood filler or putty and let it dry completely.

3. Remove hardware: Remove any hardware, such as doorknobs or locks, using a screwdriver. This will make it easier to paint around the edges.

4. Prime the surface: Apply a coat of primer to the entire door surface using a brush or roller. This will help the paint adhere better and provide a smooth base for the topcoat. Let it dry completely before moving on to the next step.

5. Paint the door: Apply the paint in thin, even coats, using a brush or roller. Start with the recessed areas first and work your way out to the flat surfaces. Let each coat dry completely before applying the next one. Depending on the paint you've chosen, you may need to apply two or three coats.

6. Reinstall hardware: Once the paint is completely dry, reinstall the hardware using a screwdriver.
