Building a Sustainable Future with KENT
At KENT Building Supplies, we believe that building a better future starts with making responsible choices today. As a company rooted in the communities we serve, we are committed to sustainability in everything we do—from the products we offer to the way we operate.

Our Corporate Commitment to Sustainability
As an organization, we are dedicated to reducing our environmental footprint while helping customers and communities do the same. Here’s how we are making an impact:
- Waste Reduction & Recycling
At KENT, we take recycling seriously which is why we have composting and recycling programs at our offices and stores, and we have partnered with Recycle My Electronics to provide safe and responsible recycling for electronic waste at ten of our retail locations, removing 29 metric tons of electronic waste to date.
- Energy Efficiency
Through energy-saving initiatives like LED lighting, reduced water usage, and efficient heating and cooling systems, we are constantly working to reduce our carbon footprint. These initiatives have resulted in a reduction of 2.5 million kWh per year across 8 stores and our distribution centre, equivalent to almost 1,250 metric tons of carbon annually.

Sustainable Product Choices
We’re here to help you make sustainable choices, whether you’re building a new home, renovating, or just looking for eco-friendly upgrades. These choices can often be more cost-effective in the long run.
Energy Efficient Doors & Windows

Our partner, Atlantic Windows is proudly Canadian owned and operated and offers numerous options to improve the R-value of a window or door’s glass area.
- On average, today’s ENERGY STAR® qualified windows are twice as efficient as windows manufactured 10 years ago.
- ENERGY STAR® qualified windows can help to reduce energy bills by up to 15 percent.
ENERGY STAR® Rated Appliances

Appliances that have the ENERGY STAR® rating meet strict energy-efficiency requirements. By using less energy, these products also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change
ENERGY STAR® Rated Dehumidifiers

Available as ENERGY STAR® options, dehumidifiers also reduce the amount of moisture in the air, contributing to a healthy home environment.
Battery Powered Outdoor Equipment

Rechargeable battery-powered outdoor equipment helps the environment by producing zero emissions, consuming less energy, avoiding fuel spills and even reducing noise pollution!
LED Lighting

LED lighting uses significantly less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs. This results in lower carbon emissions, a longer lifespan, fewer bulb replacements and the absence of chemicals such as mercury which may be found in some bulbs.
Programmable Thermostats

We sell a wide range of programmable thermostats to help control heating costs. Programmable thermostats adjust the scheduled temperature in your home based on a pre-determined schedule. Some thermostats have Wi-Fi capabilities and will even share your energy usage compared to other months.
Water Efficient Toilets

Water-saving, high-efficiency toilets are available, some using only 1.01 gallons per flush, thus lowering your water consumption and your water bill too.
Low Flow Faucets & Showerheads

Low-flow showerheads save energy by significantly reducing the amount of water used during a shower. This means that less hot water is needed to be produced, resulting in less energy and water being used.
Mini Split Heat Pumps

Mini-split heat pumps are more efficient than oil furnaces or baseboard heaters because they use significantly less energy to produce the same amount of heat.
Weather Stripping

By sealing gaps around doors and windows, you can prevent hot or cool air from escaping your house in the winter or summer. This will lead to less energy being used to heat or cool your home.
Insulation

Insulation with higher R ratings can help keep cool or warm air inside your home in the summer or winter, thus lowering the energy required.
Sustainable forestry products

Our dimensional lumber selection is largely supplied by J.D. Irving, using every part of every tree harvested to minimize waste. A quarter of the lands managed are also set aside for conservation.
Join us on the Journey
