Safety First
Before installing any sort of fire pit, check with your local authorities to ensure you have all the proper permits. During dry summer months it’s common for burn bans to change on a daily basis. Verify your area’s burn permissions before any bonfire and follow all recommended safety precautions! A common safety requirement is a fire screen to prevent excessive sparking.
Burn Method
Before bringing home or building your fire pit, choose a burn method that will work for your yard. If you don’t usually have access to firewood, a gas or propane fire pit will give you all the heat with zero hassle. Propane or gas options are also better suited to small spaces or decks that aren’t safe for wood burning. If you’re opting for wood burning, go with dry hardwoods that will burn longer and produce less sparks than a softwood.
