How to Install a Heater
The seasons are getting colder and that means it’s time to start considering heating solutions. Installing a heater can vary depending on the type of heater you're installing (e.g., electric, gas, central heating). Here are some general guidelines to help you get started.
Choose the location
Using my chisel and hammer I distress the wood to my liking.
Next, I took my reciprocating saw to the edges of the boards to leave some nice deep cuts and saw marks
Once I was happy with the distressing, I sanded all the pieces with 60 grit, then 80 grit and finished it off with 120 grit sandpaper.
And lastly, the true trick to aging wood… a wire brush. Go over the wood with your wire brush to scuff it up as much as possible.
Gather Tools and Materials
You'll need tools like a screwdriver, drill, anchors, a wire stripper, and other appropriate hardware. Carefully read the manufacturer's installation instructions that come with your heater.
Prepare the Wall or Floor
If required, mark the location for wall mounting or clear the area for floor placement. Ensure the electrical outlet you plan to use is in good condition and can handle the heater's power requirements. It should be properly grounded and on a dedicated circuit.
Mounting (if applicable): For wall-mounted heaters, use the provided brackets and secure them to the wall using anchors and screws. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for securing the heater to the brackets. Place it on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
Electrical Connection
I created two “A” shapes using 1 top support, 1 bottom support, and 2 legs. I secured the “A” frame with wood glued and screws.
Next, I took my A” shaped legs and attached them to the bottom of your bench using glue, and screws.
Safety Precautions
Ensure the heater is placed on a stable surface or securely mounted to the wall. Keep flammable objects away from the heater. Use the heater's built-in safety features, such as tip-over and overheat protection. Test the heater by turning it on and testing its functionality to ensure it's working properly. Install smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors if you don't already have them in the area where the heater is installed.
Maintenance and Care
Regularly clean the heater according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Replace any filters or components as needed. Please note that this is a general guide, and the specific steps may vary depending on the type and model of the heater you're installing.
Always follow the manufacturer's instructions and, when in doubt, consult a professional installer or electrician to ensure a safe and proper installation. For more complex heaters, like gas heaters or central heating systems, it's highly recommended to hire a licensed professional to ensure safety and compliance with local codes and regulations. Stay safe and enjoy your cozy new heating system!
